HOW TO SURVIVE SALES

I'm not sure if this has happened to you. In my case, just seeing the word "sale" or something similar activates something in my brain. "A hoodie please! I wear it at any time. I immediately feel like I need it, that it's perfect, that it's meant for me, the ideal wardrobe staple. And above all, it's a bargain! I just can’t let it slip away.

Now, discounts are available all year round. We’re bombarded with these familiar words that urge us to buy and feel the satisfaction of having made the purchase of the century. Where have those times gone when you waited for your birthday or Christmas to get that coveted item?

WISE PERSON (he knows who he is).
Every time I buy a piece of clothing or an accessory, he asks me the following questions:

When are you going to wear it?
Where are you going to put it?
And, don’t you already have one that’s very similar?

I always respond:

1- (When are you going to wear it?) Any day, it's super versatile. This is a wardrobe essential.

2- (Where are you going to put it?) Oh, anywhere. It barely takes up any space. I'll make room for it.

3- (Don’t you already have one that looks very similar?) No way! Oh, you're thinking of the maroon one. No, no, that one’s longer, a different fabric, and the color is totally different. They’re nothing alike. (Honestly, even writing this is making me laugh).

And I haven’t even told you, but it was a total bargain, it was the last one, and guess what? It’s my size. Oh, and by the way, the most important thing—it’s a sustainable hoodie!

WISE PERSON"¡Lucky you, huh! You always have such luck, you’re so fortunate." If only hoodie It's not the hoodie that's expensive, I agree with you. The expensive part is the new wardrobe you're going to have to buy to store it.

The reality (ME):

1- (When are you going to wear it?) Once, twice, maybe three times. Why? Because with the daily whirlwind, I barely have time to dress, so I just throw on whatever I find. I was wrong when I said it's a wardrobe staple, and I keep thinking my closets are endless, like in "The Chronicles of Narnia."

So what happens? I try to make a bit more room, squeeze everything in a little tighter, buy thinner hangers—because, as everyone knows, it's the hangers that take up space, not the clothes.

3- (Don’t you have one that looks very similar?) Identical? Not just one, but two. Actually, if I think hard enough, maybe even more than two. And the difference between them is almost imperceptible—even to fashion experts. Not even “la Wintourcould tell them apart. The worst part? I knew it all along, and I lie like crazy to justify myself.

My goal is to listen to the wise person I mentioned. I (and I recommend this to you) am going to ask myself these three questions before I rush into buying something, driven by the consumerism that surrounds us and that we all participate in and feed. Let’s not make the monster any bigger Sustainable wardrobe with prendas sostenibles, y ya si es con sudaderas sostenibles y solidarias, pues mucho mejor.
